WWT London Wetlands Centre, Barnes

17th March 2023

Our Reception and Year 1 children enjoyed a fantastic day at the WWT London Wetland Centre in Barnes where they attended an animal habitats workshop and then took part in a pond dipping activity. They were excited to find ramshorn snails, sticklebacks, damselfly larva and a greater water boatman, which they discovered is a brown bug that lives in water and has long hind legs, covered in hairs, that it uses rather like paddles to swim !

They then explored the Wetlands and used a species board to identify different birds and later, to their delight, spotted a pair of otters that were busy using straw to build a den.

One of the highlights of the day was completing the ‘Wild Walk’ which included navigating narrow beams and a hanging bridge.
