Code to Joy

24th February 2023

Students in Year 1 have begun learning about programming using the ScratchJr application.

ScratchJr is an introductory programming language that enables young children (ages 5-7) to create their own interactive stories and games. The platform encourages a basic understanding of algorithms and it begins to develop a sense of creating, debugging and logical reasoning. Children snap together graphical programming blocks to make characters move, jump, dance, and sing, then use programming blocks to make their characters come to life. Year 1 learned to open the ScratchJr app, start a new project and add new characters and backgrounds. They will continue to learn how to use blocks to create sets of sequenced instructions and create their own animations.

We can’t wait to see what they will create over the coming weeks!
