Community and Culture

26th February 2021

Redcliffe pupils have been considering the importance of culture and what it means to be part of a community in their lessons this week.

Culture plays an important role in the development of any nation and with one of the world’s largest collections of songs, music, dance, theatre, folk traditions, performing arts, rites and rituals, paintings and writings that are known as the ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage’ (ICH) of humanity, Year 4 are working on a project looking at Indian culture. They started with a video tour of the Taj Mahal before following steps to draw the iconic building in their own style.

Meanwhile Years 2 and 3 embraced different aspects of living in a community. Year 3 have been investigating monetary matters; considering how people make money and what skills are important for different jobs. Ocean produced a very professional-looking job advertisement inspired by the discussion. Year 2 looked at what it means to be part of a community, a concept that has meant so much more to us all during the last year, and produced some lovely, thoughtful and colourful work.
