Digesting the Digestive System
16th September 2022Year 4 we have been learning how the body digests food in their Science lessons this week.
Using plastic bags for their mouths, students crushed up the crackers and added water to act as the saliva to help swallow the crackers into the stomach. In the stomach bag, they added orange juice as stomach acids to further help turn the crackers into a wet paste that would then pass into the tights that were used to represent the intestines. Students squeezed out all of the vitamins and water from the paste to be absorbed by our bodies, before making its inevitable journey out of the body.
It was a messy but wholly enjoyable way of visualising the squelchy and gloopy journey through the digestive system.
