Exploring the Monuments and Mysteries of Stonehenge

30th September 2022

In Humanities, Year 5 have been learning about Stonehenge as part of their exploration into the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age.

In class students learnt all about the ancient structure, walking in the footsteps of their Neolithic ancestors and explored the monuments and mysteries of the Stonehenge site. They then built replicas of Stonehenge out of Lego to fully appreciate the complexity of the structure. We then tried to answer the question: Why was Stonehenge built? After investigating artefacts from the site, we concluded three options: a cemetery, a place of worship or a place of healing.
