From Pears to Portraits

29th April 2022

We’ve seen some fantastic pieces of art at Redcliffe this week, with Year 1 practising sketching and shading of apples and pears, whereas Prep School students produced portraits of Shakespeare.

Using HB pencils, Year 1 pupils learned how to create dark and light lines by altering the pressure on the nib of their pencil. They then used their fingers and rubbers to smudge the sketches, to create different effects.

Meanwhile Upper School students have revisited the steps to portraiture in their most recent Art lessons. With his birthday recently marked, William Shakespeare was their chosen subject. Students looked at various portraits of Shakespeare before putting their own interpretation into a piece of artwork with some stunning results. The portraits were proudly put on display with accompanying facts about the bard.
