History – looking at the British seaside holiday

13th May 2022

Year 1 have been learning about how British seaside holidays in the past differed from seaside holidays today. They looked at old photos and were surprised to see people wearing suits and long dresses on the beach and were fascinated by pictures of bathing machines and ice cream carts. Mr Dunhill recalled, as a child, having a metal spade with a wooden handle and a bucket made of tin. Mrs Woodhead remembered seeing a ‘Punch and Judy Puppet Show’ and riding on a donkey in Clacton-on-Sea. The children wrote passages in excellent cursive hand-writing about what they had learnt.
