Learning About Lighthouses

10th June 2022

Year 1 have been learning about lighthouses and the important role they play in keeping boats and ships safe in the seas around the UK.

Students learned how lighthouses help to mark dangerous coastlines, hazardous shoals, reefs, rocks, and safe entries to harbours. The children drew their own lighthouses and watched a dramatised story about Grace Darling, the daughter of an English lighthouse keeper, whose actions in helping to rescue nine sailors from the shipwrecked Forfarshire in 1838 brought her national fame.
