Paul Gauguin and Tropical Fruit

18th June 2021

Art Club this week has been a game of two halves.  In Monday’s Art Club the pupils decided they were having a Make me a fruit cocktail kind of afternoon.  Things got very tropical at Number 47!

During our Tuesday Art Club sessions the children have been looking at Paul Gauguin and some of his artworks.  They started the project by looking at some of his Tahitian landscapes and colour moods, before observing Gauguin’s still life Vase of Flowers (1896) and finally producing their own interpretation of this work.

The children took one of his quotes; ‘I shut my eyes in order to see’ to imagine a Tahitian landscape and the form of his still life of flowers.  This resulted in some impressive and creative ideas.
