Poetry in Ocean
13th January 2023As part of their ‘Writing to Entertain’ topic in English, Year 4 pupils took what they learnt last term about the importance of water for life on Earth and explored the artistry and mechanics of poetry.
Having looked at the importance of protecting life below water, goal fourteen of the United Nations’ Global Goals for Sustainable Development, students planned, drafted and edited poems inspired by the topic. To help them, they learnt how poems are typically structured and the different rhyming patterns that are found in stanzas.
Using rhyme and rhythm, alliteration and repetition, metaphor and simile, line breaks and onomatopoeia, students crafted some entertaining and unique pieces which left them feeling inspired to play their part in helping to protect and save our seas.
