Reception and Year 1 Trip to Holly Lodge

1st July 2022

This week, Reception and Year 1 children visited Holly Lodge in Richmond Park.

Students spent the day sketching old oak trees and finding invertebrates, learning that they do not have backbones. Woodlice, yellow ants, caterpillars, a centipede, slugs and a brown toad were all spotted on their hunt in the long grass for invertebrates. Shortly afterwards students had the opportunity to spot some water-dwelling creatures when they went pond dipping. The children marvelled at the water boatmen, damselfly larva and water beetles, while there were also sightings of a froglet and bright blue dragonfly curiously keeping an eye on proceedings.
