Upper School Trip to the Opera

On Tuesday Years 4 – 6 were given an ‘Introduction to Opera’ when they visited Opera Holland Park.

Students were introduced to characters from Eugene Onegin, an opera by Tchaikovsky about a selfish hero who rejects a young girl’s love but later regrets doing so. The singers explained the scene and then sung the arias from each act. The orchestra also spoke about their instruments and how they were played.

The students came away having learnt a lot about opera –and how it is considered by many to be the most complete art form, combining all of the elements of art, words, music, drama and dance – and thoroughly enjoyed hearing the beautiful performances from the singers and orchestra.
