Vive la France! RGS celebrate French Day
20th May 2022On Monday, Redcliffe Gardens School held a fun-filled French Day with a number of activities designed to celebrate the French language and culture.
Students and staff arrived at school dressed in the colours of le Tricolore (rouge, blanc et bleu) with Bourne Hall suitably decorated with tricolore flags and images of iconic Parisian monuments. The day kicked off with a French assembly where children had the opportunity to showcase their French-themed artwork such as La Tour Eiffel et Notre-Dame de Paris. Students in Year 5 and 6 rounded off the assembly with a fantastic French play about the French Revolution.
The French breakfast that followed proved very popular indeed and the cheese tasting – which gave students the opportunity to practise how to order in French – was equally successful with every last piece of cheese merrily consumed by our Gallic gourmands.
Later in the morning a theatre company was invited to perform two well-known fairy tales in French and asked the children to participate. We were captivated by the stories of Boucle d’Or et les trois ours (Goldilocks and the Three Bears) and Les trois petits cochons (The Three Little Pigs). The children were absolutely wonderful participating in French. All of the teachers were so proud of the children and how well they were able to follow the stories.
The day was a great success as a result of the children and the staff embracing the spirit and culture of another language. Learning took place by having fun through tasting, looking, listening and some speaking. We hope it has really ignited their enthusiasm for learning a language and that French in our school will go from strength to strength.
