Year 5 and 6 Pupils Visit Grosvenor House Hotel

As part of our Art curriculum and community links, Year 5 and 6 pupils had the opportunity to visit the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel – a luxury five-star hotel located on Park Lane.

At Grosvenor House the children were given first-hand experience of working in a hotel environment, seeing how teamwork is a crucial success factor across all areas of the organisation, and learnt that sharing tasks and learning from each other’s experiences play an important part in our own self-development.

The morning began with an introduction to the hotel and its history followed by a tour of several rooms and public areas.  We were then introduced to the workings of the kitchen by Executive Chef Nigel Boschetti and shown what planning and food choices go into creating a menu. The children were then given a cookery demonstration before working with Executive Chef Robert Stephens and his team making their own perfect scones.  Finally, the children had a question-and-answer session with a panel of Marriott employees.

This opportunity provided an implicit learning experience for the future. Our time at the Grosvenor House was highly memorable and provided raw material for further learning for the children as an inspirational and positive pathway to learning.
