Year 6 Heart Dissection

4th March 2022

Having been studying the circulatory system as part of their animals topic, Year 6 students had a hands-on look at the heart in Science this week.

The lesson was spent with students donning scalpels and lab coats as they dissected the heart, taking note of the different parts – from the pulmonary artery to the tricuspid valve – and learning what role each part plays in pumping blood around the body.

Any fears of students feeling squeamish were short-lived as they poked and prodded their way around the heart with aplomb.
